England’s Chris Ashton may be the Premiership’s top try scorer, but Wales’ Shane Williams was undoubtedly the better finisher, according to SARugbymag.co.za readers.
A former England international, 35-year-old Ashton was a deadly finisher who represented seven clubs in a decorated career, including Northampton, Saracens, Sale, Toulon and Leicester Tigers. Ashton had blistering pace and a keen eye for the try line. He scored 20 tries for England in 44 appearances and is the English Premiership’s all-time top try-scorer with 98 five-pointers.
However, it was Williams who grabbed nearly 95% of the vote in a poll to find rugby’s ultimate finisher
The 2008 IRB Player of the Year, Williams scored an astounding 58 tries in 87 Tests and bagged two tries in four Tests for the British and Irish Lions. The winger also boasts an impressive record when it comes to World Cups, scoring 10 tries in 11 appearances across three tournaments (2003, 2007 and 2011).

Not one for hopping between clubs, Williams spent most of his career with Ospreys where he tops the list for all-time tries with 57 tries in 141 matches.
