Wallabies and Waratahs veteran Kurtley Beale has been arrested amid a police investigation into an alleged sexual assault in Bondi in December.
According to reports in Australia, Beale was arrested in Sydney at 2.30pm on Friday afternoon following a training session with the Waratahs and was taken to a police station in Waverley.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that a 28-year-old woman reported to the police that she had been allegedly sexually assaulted at a hotel in Bondi Beach on 17 December 2022.
A police source told the Sydney Morning Herald that Beale is expected to be charged, and it will be alleged in court that he had sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent.
Rugby Australia released a statement on Friday, confirming that they are aware of Beale’s arrest.
“Rugby Australia, the NSW Waratahs and the Rugby Unions Players Association (Rupa) are aware of the situation involving Kurley Beale. As this is a police matter, and we understand there has been no charge made, we will be making no further comment at this time.”
Beale had recently returned to the Waratahs setup after a stint in France. He was part of Wallabies training camp that assembled last week to prepare for the 2023 Test season, including the upcoming World Cup.
